Shockwave therapy is a low level lithotripsy device used in orthopaedics, physiotherapy, sports medicine, and urology. The concept and technology originally evolved from the discovery that focused-sound-waves were capable of breaking down kidney and gallstones. In regards to physical therapy, the shockwave device is applied directly to the skin through acoustic waves which carry high energy to painful spots by triggering the body’s own natural healing response thus reducing pain and improving mobility to the injured body part.
